Summary from the accounts of www.GrumpyOldSod.com, a website attracting nearly 20 million visitors a year ... Cost of domain name registration: £10 a year Cost of web hosting, including 9 other websites: £100 a year Income from advertising: typically £120 a year Income from referrals to Amazon: typically £180 a year Total: £190 a year profit. Budget for the various BBC websites: £122 million a year. OK, I accept that the BBC websites are bigger, more complex, marginally prettier, equipped with more bells and whistles and therefore more costly to run, but ... 642,105 times more costly? Grumpy Old Sod has something like 700 pages (don't actually know - I lost track some time ago) so by the BBC's standards each page should be worth £174,000. I think I'm missing a trick, here. I just can't for the life of me work out what it is ... either on this site or on the World Wide Web. Copyright © 2010 The GOS |
